To engage your 4 Wheel Drive has 2 steps. 1 Step you must go into Neutral to go from 2H into 4Low( with arrow facing down. To disengage being in 4 Low you must return to neutral and then shift back to 2H. If you are not in very rough terrain or mud, which would require more torque, you may use step 2. which is going from 2H to 4H( Up Arrow) at anytime without shifting into neutral first.
