you probably broke the little piece of plistic in the black box the actual opens the latch. This could have been done by slaamming the trunk. I have the same problem. I super glued it once and then broke it again when my heavy bike rack was on the trunk.
Most likely.
The trunk latch on a 2002 Chevy Cavalier is typically a metal mechanism located at the rear of the trunk compartment. It features a hook or catch design that secures the trunk lid when closed. The latch is usually operated by a release lever inside the vehicle or by using the key fob. It may also have a plastic cover or housing that blends with the trunk's interior.
* Remove the trunk lid latch * Detach the lock release box from the latch assembly * To detach the lock cylinder from the trunk lid pry off the retainer
Take the back seat out and climb thru and turn the rod going thru the latch.
To replace the trunk release cable on a Chevy Cavalier, first, remove the interior panel of the trunk area to access the cable mechanism. Disconnect the old cable from the latch and the release handle. Install the new cable by securing it to the latch and reattaching the release handle, then test the operation before replacing the interior panel. Finally, ensure all components are properly secured and the panel is reinstalled.
I have a 97 Cavalier,,,and one key does the door , ignition and trunk.
roughly 5 teens fit in my trunk 2003 cav
It's mounted on the Trunk Lid Latch.....
Pull down the back seat then insert a screwdriver in the hole in the middle of the lock mechanism and turn it until the trunk opens. On the left side of the mechanism is a plastic box that probably broke, replace it.

A flat tire on a Chevy Cavalier can be caused by many things such as nail or an air leak. A spare tire can be found in the trunk area of the Cavalier.
Apparently your rear trunk latch needs adjusted.
