On my 2000 Ford focus, I fixed the problem by doing the following. on the brake pedal there is a gray cylindrical part, about the size of a $10 roll of quaters. this part attaches to the brake pedal from the back side by a half counter clock wise turn. on the tip of the part their is a push button, when the brake is released the button is pushed in by a metal part. when the brake pedal is applyed the button is realeased making your brake lights turn on. my guess is you some how kicked this device off like I did, just go look behind the brake pedal and screw the device back on. good luck. Replace or adjust the brake light switch. Located somewhere on the brake pedal swing arm. little piece of rubber sticks out of the pbrake pedal, hits a button. this has oprobably fallen off, happens on all cars. mostly hondas. anyways this is probably your problem
