I have a 97 Sebring convertible, my trunk will not open, I tried using the key and the remote, is there an emergency release cable anywhere else in the car?

All the Sebrings I have seen have either a button on the lower left dash panel or use the key fob remote. Forgot. You have to have the ignition in the on position for the above to work and if you don't have a key or remote fob, your probably can't get into the car either and since it is all electric, the car has to have a good battery.
The alarm is disarmed by unlocking the doors with the key or remote.
My wife and I purchased a Sebring (1998) that had the same problem. We were told it is the chip in the key. The key needs to be replaced.
With the key, the lock is underneath the white, pentagon-shaped emblem on the trunk lid.
The only other way is using the key fob I guess you could hot wire the mustang, but i DO NOT recommend it, because it's illegal
