normally what i do it is to have some one hold the mirror very tightly while the button assembly is sitting firm against a hard surface (like the edge of the table) then i take a flat head screwdriver and a hammer - put the tip of the screwdriver on the button and just knock it out with the hammer - works like a champ for this redneck p.s. make sure you glue the correct side of the button and yes - use the primer first.
you can buy a repair kit at any parts store. It is very simple to do...
The mirror bracket is generally held onto the 'button' with a very small Allen screw. Look for this and loosen it. -Get Loctite Auto Mirror Adhesive at any auto parts store to re-stick the button.

To remove the metal button from the rearview mirror stem on a 1995 Olds 98 Regency, first, locate the small set screw on the stem near the base of the mirror. Use a small screwdriver or Allen wrench to loosen the screw, being careful not to remove it completely. Once the screw is loosened, gently pull the mirror away from the stem to detach it. If the button is stuck, you may need to wiggle it slightly while pulling to free it.

The 1995 General Motors/GMC Sonoma has the door lock motors and actuator assemblies. These are located in the driver and passenger side doors, behind the door trims.
Look to see if there is a small set screw on back of the mirror assembly. Loosen screw and the button should slide out. Clean old adhesive off the window and button thoroughly (small flat razon blade works great). Apply the setup adhesive and allow 2 minutes to dry. Then apply liberal drop of adhesive to the button, and place button on the windshield. Allow 15 minutes to set up, and then reapply rear view mirror.
