You don't. GM products have a passlock system that will prevent starting without a key unless you really know what your doing to disable the system. Best bet would be take the registration in your name to any Chevy dealer and they can make you a new key from the vin#
2 bolts hold it in and you have the hot wire from the battery to take off the starter and 2 small wires and just pull it out.

The switch is out or you have crossed wires-it's still getting current. Use a test light with switch off on hot wire between switch & motor. If there is current, your switch is bad.
