They're simply inserted into the vacant freeze plug opening and tightened up. Its a little more involved than that: on my '04 TJ -6cyl, the dealer had to install my blocker heater, since the frost plug is located directly behind the AC compressor, this has to be removed for access, the freon is purged and then recharged after, the cost is about $150-170 which includes parts and labour.
