Depends on Model. Older Transponders: The hole in the black plastic head sometimes. If it has a transponder the hole is offset to one side and thick plastic. Non transponder usually has a thinner black head with hole in center top of key. Most 2003+ Fords are transponder EXCEPT 2005 Ranger & Super Duty Models. Some key manufacturers have application guides for free on their websites. ILCO, Strattec, and JMA are a few manufacturers.

How do you bypass the electronic chip in your key for a 99 Ford Ranger?

The easiest way to get around the Transponder Chip in your 99 Ford Ranger is to have a chip programmed and mount it under the steering column cowling close to the inductor coil on the ignition lock. That way you can use non Transponder keys to start the vehicle.

What is a transponder ignition key?

A transponder ignition key is a type of car key that contains a small chip, or transponder, embedded within it. This chip communicates with the vehicle's ignition system, allowing the engine to start only when the correct key is detected. This technology enhances vehicle security by preventing unauthorized access, as a standard key without the transponder will not start the engine. Transponder keys are commonly used in modern vehicles for improved anti-theft protection.

Can a transponder key ignition on a 99 explorer be changed to a non transponder ignition?

This is not for the rule abiding, uptight individual, so as far as the rest of the world goes.. if you have one key to your transponder key vehicle. Simply take the key hide it under your dash on the driver side in any fashion you feel comfortable with, but, of course, have a key cut that matches it(regular key) your computer will pick up the transponder under the dash and the $3 key will start it. Your other question will be "can people still my car now" yes, they can... will they.. NO, probably not. The reason for that is, that thieves know what they are stealing. they know your car has a transponder on it and won't even try.. they will move on to the next car. Can you bypass the transponder? NO. once again.. a thief knows this...
