clunking noise while going over bumps or the greese fitting on the ball joint is no longer visible or flush with the ball joint housing
Have the car checked at a wheel alignment shop.
When replacing parts of a car, it is important to know the general cost of the fixes. To replace the ball joints for a 2003 F150 pickup truck, it is going to cost a person $40-$60 to do it on their own.
Need to know what vehicle and what year for an answer
I don't know anything about cars, except I'm having my ball joints (I believe all 4) replaced on my 2000 Ford Explorer and they say it will cost around $760. I !AnswerO.K. I work at Canadian tire in Hanover, and I did a little research for you. If you plan on replacing the two front ball joints at once, it will take about 2.8 hrs and at 68/hr that's about $190.40 plus parts. If you just want to replace one at the time it'll be about 1.5 hrs (this is by the labor book) and at 68/hr that's about $102 plus parts, so you are better doing both at once. Now the ball joints themselves are about $80 a piece depending where you go. Hopefully this gives you a general idea. Good luck!
no
never use used frt. end parts. its one thing for a used starter to fail and your car wont start but to be driving 60 mph and have a ball joint come apart is another If you know what to look for and not install worn out parts you will be fine, after all, every vehicle on the road has used ball joints. yes you are right. but the only way to check the wear properly is to install. what is the cost of new ball joints compared to used then the time it takes to install... again, put new frt. end parts on.. a ball joint costs 30.00. a used one is what? 20.00? If you are replacing damaged suspension parts because of an accident, you can purchase complete good used a-frames and spindles with ball joints from a respected used auto parts dealer, if you are short on cash. yes, in an accident where you have to buy the control arm, ball joint, spindal, rotor, caliper ect. as an assembly then yes. but the question was only replacing ball joints and again just replacing ball joints is not worth buying used stuff. spend $10.00 more and do it right.
When owning a car it is important to know how much replacement parts will cost. A 1992 Oldsmobile Royale brake and ball joints will cost between $15 and $60+.
For step-by-step instructions on removing/replacing ball joints, refer to a Repair Manual (Haynes or Chilton) for your vehicle. Manuals are available for sale about $11-$14 at any auto parts store. Or you can look in your local public library to see if there is one available for checkout.
If you have a factory steering knuckle, ford designed them for the ball joints to not be removable. If you are thinking that your ball joints are bad for some reason, you will need to get after market steering knuckles, and ball joints for replacement. Costly, I know but worth it. I suggest MOOG, I've always have had good experience with them.
There are a number of things that I know of that can cause this one. First off did you have an alignment done after replacing the tires? I would also suggest checking out your front end ie ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings and so on. Good luck
The shoulder is a ball and socket joint. The hip is also.
Put the car on a rack and have the ball joints inspected by a professional if you suspect they are bad. Your car will dart from side to side and handle poorly if they are bad. This is a very dangerous situation so have this looked at ASAP.
