sometimes hitting with your fist closed will do the trick; hit around where the latch is located sometimes hard some times soft; my G20 will open this way when I do it this until a get a replacement cable hope this works for you
my Beretta is a 94 and it hood release is broke just the silver cable show ,,, i use needle nose pliers and pull it !

If you remove the grill from the front of the truck you can then access the safety latch and hood release. My latch had rusted so I had to do this using a flat head screw driver and lifting the safety latch which allowed for the hood release to open.

I go crazy everytime I have to open the hood on my 98 Chevy Astro. The guys just say "oh it's a Chevy" and they bang the hood. I have found that if I stick a butter knife unde the hood I can open it. What a pain!

To open the hood of a 1995 Chevy van with a broken cable, you can try accessing the latch manually. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry open the hood release mechanism located near the front grille. Alternatively, you can also reach under the front of the van and feel for the latch itself, pulling it directly to release the hood. If these methods don't work, consider using a pair of pliers on the cable if any part is still accessible.
Use a large long blade screwdriver thru grill & turn latch, you will see the hole in the latch. No damage done.
