Any major engine work will be way too complex to answer in this forum. The work can be done succesfully by an amature, with proper guidance. Invest 15 buscks or so and buy a maintenance manual at your local auto parts store. Read it carefully before you start the job. It will tell you what tools and materials you will need, and it will lead you through the job one step at a time.
Yes you do halft to pull the head, because the gaskets are under the head.
on the front of the motor on the bottom there is a metal cylinder with a bolt head on it. its a "drop in filter" you have to have a 24mm to get it off then just pull the filter out.
In the 2006 Saturn Vue, the oil dipstick is in the left corner of the engine. It is the yellow plastic pull ring.
You'll need to either pull the engine or the transaxle. The engine would be far less trouble, but it will still be a bit of trouble.
On a 2003 Saturn, the dipstick is typically located near the engine, near the front or side of the engine block. For the Saturn S-Series, it is usually found near the oil fill cap, which is often on the top of the engine. To check the oil level, simply pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then pull it out again to check the oil level.

You have to pull the cam to change the valve disks. The only practical way to do that is to remove the head.
Yes, the engine will pull right out without removing the trans.
To replace the clutch you must separate the engine and transmission. For a front wheel drive vehicle, separating the engine and transmission can only be accomplished by removing the engine.
The 3.5 Liter motor was optional in 1999. From 2000-2002 the only motor offered was the 3.5 L.
In the engine, you will find the light leading out into your engine. Take the plug and give it a quarter turn and pull. To get to the right side one, you have to take out the box (just pull it out) in front of the battery, but it has cables, so don't pull it too hard.
