Try this, it might be easier, remove the 2 bolts that's at the top of the steering knuckle that holds the knuckle on.
Put the Ball Joint back in and attach it to the knuckle
then swing the knuckle back up and attach it to the strunt arm again.
Should be easier then Wrestling with the spring.
Worn or damaged front suspension component such as ball joint, wheel bearing, spring, control arm, etc.

The 2000 Ram had u joints, not cv joints at the front axle.
Worn Ball Joint
The grinding noise in the front of a 1990 Dodge Caravan could be a cv joint. If it is, it probably only grinds when you take a sharp turn. There is one located on each side.
Both ends need removed.
Possibly, the ball joint is bad or a bad strut, but I would have the ball joint checked first.
A worn out Universal joint in the rear driveshaft.

You will probably have to replace the upper and lower ball joints. Dodge does not put grease fittings on these from the factory, because of this they wear quickly and the squeaking you here is the metal to metal in the ball joint when there is motion in the front end of the truck.
A bad ball joint or tie rod end.
