Piece of cake. Takes all of 5 minutes to do. This pertains to a '98 but I doubt it will be much different with an '00. Take the large plastice cover off the top of the engine. (4 hex screws need to be removed.) Unplug the IAC valve. If you have the new part or know what to look for you can't miss it. It's right there. Unscrew the 2 IAC valve screws. Wipe down the gasket with a clean rag. Put the new one on. Put the screws back. Voila!! Done.
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve on a 2000 Ford Explorer is typically located on the throttle body. It is mounted on the intake manifold, near the throttle plate, and is usually secured by a couple of screws. To access it, you may need to remove the air intake duct for better visibility and reach. Always refer to a repair manual for specific instructions and diagrams related to your vehicle.
Driver side of upper intake manifold. Just behind the IAC valve. IAC is just behind the throttle body.
If you look at the engine , from the drivers side of your Explorer , the IAC valve is mounted on the side of the upper " plastic " intake manifold close to the 4.0 L EFI raised lettering on the manifold . It is mounted just above the rectangular shaped DPFE sensor
If your 2000 Ford Explorer is idling low, it could be due to several factors such as a dirty or failing idle air control valve (IAC), a vacuum leak, or issues with the fuel system. It’s also worth checking the spark plugs and ignition system, as misfiring can affect idle quality. Cleaning or replacing the IAC valve and inspecting vacuum hoses can often resolve low idle issues. If the problem persists, consider having a mechanic diagnose it for more specific issues.
IAC sits on the top of the motor.
