My wife just ran my 2001 out of gas the other day - all I did was put about a half gallon in the tank and it started right up.
You may need to cycle the key to the ON position 4 or 5 times - without starting the engine - this allows the fuel pump to re-pressurize the line.
If that doesn't do it, double-check the emergency fuel shutoff switch in the back right corner of the "way back" - in the same compartment as the tire jack.
