You need to clear the codes with a engine scanner.
Reading diagnostic codes is easy. The driver plugs the reader/scanner into the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and the scanner/reader will give a code if there is a problem, and tell them the type of problem.
Most vechicles can be pluged into a CEL reader at a local autostore. My Local Adavanced Auto does not have a CEL reader. But My local Autozone does.
Unfortunately, you can't. 1995 and later models require an OBDII scanner tool to retrieve the codes. If you want to buy one, they sell for about $60 at Walmart,,, or you can take your vehicle to AutoZone, Advance. O'Reilly's, or any auto parts store that offers free scans. a 1995 chevy blink codes can be gotten with out a code reader. See you hayes manual for that vehical and it will show you what pins to jump to get them and then count the blinks. All codes are 2 digit

It cannot be done, you must have a code reader because the system is OBD2, you used to be able to do it without a code reader, but that was OBD1, OBD2 is much more complicated electronics. If you want to get it scanned, you should go to Autozone, they will code scan for free but will not clear codes. You have to pay someone with a code reader to clear the codes, disconnecting the battery doesn't work either
No obd2 requires a code reader or scanner.
