if it does not release automatically when put in gear the is a manual release lever built on the side of the e brake pedal. get under steering wheel look for small black lever and make sure your fingers are out of the way of the pedal when you tug on the manual release lever. normally a vacuum servo works the release but sometimes servo or vacuum problems fail to operate it

Purchase front brake pads for a Lincoln Mark VII with ABS. Purchase DOT 3 brake fluid for a Lincoln Mark VII with ABS. Purchase a disc brake piston tool. Park the vehicle. Disconnect the battery. Raise and support the front of the vehicle. Remove the wheels. Remove 1/2 of the brake fluid from the reservoir and disguard. Remove the caliper pins. Raise and support the caliper. Remove the outer brake pad. Return the inner brake pad and piston into the caliper with a disc brake piston tool. Remove the inner pad. Install new brake pads. Fill brake fluid to correct level.
