one of the pullies that doesn't drive anything will have a bolt head in the center, turn this counterclockwise, and as you do so, the tesion will be removed. as soon as you let tension of the socket however, the tension will be re-instated.
On the main drive serpentine belt, there is a tensioner pulle. it is positioned at 6:00. relieve tension remove belt. reverse process for reinstallation.
Serpentine puller
I believe it to be on the fan belt mechanisim..the pulley that allows you to adjust the tension.
put a wrench on the tensioner pully and pull it to release tension on the belt
To replace the serpentine belt on a 2009 Pontiac Vibe, first, locate the serpentine belt routing diagram, usually found on a sticker in the engine compartment. Use a ratchet or a wrench to rotate the tensioner pulley counterclockwise to relieve tension on the belt, allowing you to slip it off. Remove the old belt and install the new one, following the routing diagram. Finally, release the tensioner to secure the new belt in place.
To change the alternator belt on a 1984 Pontiac Sunbird, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts and the tensioner bolt to relieve tension on the belt. Remove the old belt and install the new one, making sure it follows the correct path around the pulleys. Finally, adjust the tension on the new belt, retighten the mounting bolts, and reconnect the battery terminal.
To change the serpentine belt tensioner on a 2004 Pontiac Vibe, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Use a socket wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley, then remove the serpentine belt from the tensioner. Unbolt the old tensioner from its mount, replace it with the new tensioner, and reattach the serpentine belt following the correct routing. Finally, check the tensioner’s operation before starting the engine.
The belt tensioner on a Pontiac Vibe is located near the front of the engine, typically on the passenger side. It is a spring-loaded pulley that maintains tension on the serpentine belt, allowing it to drive various accessories like the alternator and power steering pump. To access it, you may need to remove any obstructions, and it can usually be adjusted or replaced using a wrench or socket to relieve tension.
After you have released the tension from the belt, remove the 2 obvious bolts that hold it to the engine block.
To replace the serpentine belt on a Pontiac G6 with a 4-cylinder engine, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Locate the belt routing diagram, usually found on a sticker in the engine bay, and use a wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley. Remove the old belt from the pulleys, then route the new belt according to the diagram, ensuring it sits properly in the grooves. Finally, recheck the tension and ensure the belt is aligned before starting the engine.
What did unhook or break while you were under the hood ?
It provides the proper tension on the serpentine belt so as it is not too tight or too loose.
