What the Haynes and Chilton repair manuals don't tell you is that the lever is held in place with a wedge bolt. Take the nut loose from the base of the shifter below the boot and remove. Then screw the nut on the back of the wedge bolt and tighten to remove the bolt. I gave up and paid Ford on-line $15.00 for this information.
twist it to the left
Your owners manual should have that information Most vehicles have a spot on the center console with a small 'pop out' tab. Remove the tab then press the button/lever under it with a screwdriver to release the shifter. Or, connect another battery with jumper cables. Cheers

To replace the shifter cable on a 2000 Tracker, start by disconnecting the battery for safety. Remove the center console or any components obstructing access to the shifter assembly, then detach the old cable from the shifter and transmission. Route the new cable through the same path as the old one, secure it to the shifter and transmission, and reassemble any removed parts. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the shifter for proper operation.

The fuse for the gear shifter on a 2000 Lincoln LS is located in the fuse box under the dashboard on the driver's side. Specifically, you will want to check the fuse labeled for the transmission or shifter-related functions. If you don't find it there, consult the owner's manual for the exact fuse number and location. Always ensure to replace it with a fuse of the same amperage.
first you have to remove the center console by taking the two screws out under the change bar in the armrest, and pulling gently up, twist the led out of the gear shift slide area, disconnect the cigarette lighter plug, then if you look at the left side of the base of your shifter box there is a wide flat plug, that is your neutral start/backup light switch. P.S. to remove the console you also hafta remove the shifter knob, for the manual I believe its an Allen key, I have an auto so it has the C-clip in the front you just pry out with a screwdriver... manual is prolly easier.

The clutch safety switch on a 2000 BMW R1000R is typically located near the clutch lever assembly. It is integrated into the clutch perch or handlebar area, where it detects whether the clutch is pulled in or not. To access it, you may need to remove the clutch lever to reach the switch and its wiring. Always consult the service manual for specific diagrams and instructions related to your model.
