You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 1979 Chevrolet El Camino ignition switch. The ignition switch will slide out. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.

With no key you will have to drill out the existing tumbler assembly from the switch in order to unscrew the ignition switch bezel.

However if its only to move the vehicle, after you remove the key switch you can take a screw driver and turn the mechanism in the column to unlock.
