Unless you have an extremely deep socket, there are two ways to gain access with a wrench. Either remove the starter or the oil filter. You will now have enough room to get to it.
You must remove the fuel tank.

It might be in the gas tank. You'll have to remove the gas tank and switch it like that, then put it back on. in the fuel tank
To remove the battery on a 2001 Pontiac Grand am 1) move sure you use a memory saver device 2) disconnect the + and - cables on the battery and 3)right underneath the - cable is a screw you need to remove, it holds the battry in place. Do the reverse to install. If you don't save the memory from the BCM/PCM your car will do all kinds of weird stuff on its own. I am experiencing this problem now
