I had a booger of a time getting my TL assembly off. I have a factory subwoofer on the driver's side in the hatch area. After I looked at my passenger side, it became obvious. The cover was hiding the wing nut. Sooooo, after taking the speaker/amp cover off, I finally found the wing nut. After that it was almost a piece of cake, but I had taken almost all of the trim off, looking for a nut, screw etc.
If you don't have a speaker/amp in the hatch area, there will probably be a hole in the trim with a wing nut.
FWIW, I have a 2004 SVT with EAP, so that might make a difference whether the car is a ZX3, ZX5, SVT, EAP or factory sub.
