You need a tool called a Retaining Ring Pliers. You can get it at most all places that sell tools. Do yourself a favor and buy one that has changeable tips and can be used on both type of retaining rings, I bought mine at Sears. Good luck. Steve H.
Very easy. Takes about 3 minutes. Raise the hood. Raise the headlight manually by turning the black knob behind headlight. Headlight assembly is on an L shaped bracket. Side toward radiator has 2 bolts. Back side toward fender has 3 nuts. Remove these and disconnect wiring connecter laying on fender. And carefully lift out whole assembly.
You didn't say what year so here goes. On older models you need to remove the plastc grill piece to access it. On newer models there is a L shaped pin on the top of the headlight that when pulled up releases the headlight assembly.
Its held in with 4 star shaped screws... just disconnect the headlight bulbs, remove the screws and install the same way that you took that out with.
There are 2 hex shaped rods protruding from the top of the headlamp assembly. You can see these above the headlight after you open the hood. Just use a small socket (5/16" I believe) and unscrew these 2 rods and the headlight assembly can be removed . . . (it drops out of the front) . . . thereby exposing the headlight bulbs.
Pull up on the two small ("L" shaped) slides(on top of headlight ass.).Headlight pulls out.
Open the hood and remove the two candy cane shaped pins. The headlight assembly will now be able to be removed. Quarter turn the bulbs and they come right out.
lift hood, Remove plastic cover over radiator, there will be 2 flat L shaped rods protruding down over headlight assembly. 1 on right side & 1 to the left. pull each one straight up. Headlight assembly will then pull out from front off car.
Pop the hood there is a pin (metal rod L shaped around 1 in on the short side and 6 inches on the long side) that is above the headlight assembly remove the pin and the assembly will essentially fall out, change bulb, replace the assembly and put the pin back in. 2000 Chevy Silverado LT Ext Cab 4 dr 5.3L 4x4 Z71 Driver
I had this same dilemma. You must remove the whole headlight assembly. It is very easy by turning two L-shaped knobs just behind the assembly. Once you have the assembly removed, it is very easy to change the bulb by twisting the bulb out of its socket. Be sure not to touch the new bulb with your skin, or oils on your skin will cause overheating of the glass and lead to premature bulb failure.
Open hood, on top of headlight there is a silver "L" shaped pin, lift it up, slide it out, this releases headlight assembly, now simply tilt headlight forward & out.
1) Open the hood. On top of the headlight assembly are two L-shaped metal pins (they look like Allen wrenches) about 5 inches long. Unhook then and pull them straight up. This will allow you to remove the upper headlight assembly. 2) There is a plastic clip on the outboard end of the lower light assembly. Push the plastic clip outward will detach the lower light assembly, and you can pull the assembly straight out. 3) Untwist the light blub bracket counterclockwise. 4) Pull the bulb out, and replace it with a new one. 5) Reverse the process to install.
Open the hood, then remove the headlight. To remove the headlight, there are 2 "L" shaped brackets, one on the left, one on the right. Rotate them both toward the front of the car, then pick them straight up and out. The headlight will come out. Then turn bulb counterclockwise quarter turn. The bulb will come out. Remove wire connector by lifting on plastic clips. Reverse directions for installing new bulb.
