mine's a 98, but all the rear lighting is accessed through the trunk by pulling back the upholstery. mine's self explanatory from there, not sure about the 97 though

There is a long bolt on top of the headlight/blinker assembly. Remove this bolt and slide the entire headlight/blinker assembly out just enough that you can see the bulb socket. Twist the socket and it will pop right out.

When the pump died on my 1996 Achieva, the engine needed to be unbolted and removed to get to it. As I recall, it cost about $500. I have a 95 Olds Achieva 3.1 and the water pump was very easy to change. Mine is on the front passenger side of the engine. Very easy to get to, just be careful not to break any bolts off. lol
