on the 2000 xtera 3.3L V6 the computer is located under the center console of the dashboard (straight down from the radio and on the tunnel of the floor) On the drivers side by the gas pedal there is a white plastic block wiring connector with a bolt in the center. As you remove the bolt the connector pulls out (when its out dont touch the pins on the computer as static electricity could ruin the computer) Now go to the opposite side (passenger side) pull the carpet down from the tunnel. Cut the plastic tie wraps from the big wiring harness that connects it to the ECM. Should be 2 one white one grey. Dont cut the wiring harness!!! Lift the harness up above the ECM. Remove the entire center console on the floor mounted to the tunnel. The one around the shift lever can be removed enough without removing the handles by moving the selector to low and the 4WD lever to 4WD low. lift console up and turn sideways. May need to remove the plastic trim from around the radio. Now theres 2 bolts holding the ECM bracket to the floor tunnel. remove them. When the ECM is completely loose slide it out toward the passenger side making sure the wiring harness is above it. It may need to be twisted and turned to get it out. On the side of the ECM there should be a piece of tape labeled diagnostic screw . Turning the screw clockwise for 2 seconds then counter clockwise will cause the service engine soon light to blink a pattern of trouble codes stored in memory. these codes are the same as the P0000 codes except a different chart is used. They are given by the light WITHOUT the ZEROS. and the numbers are different than the ones used by a scan tool. To CLEAR the CODES turn the screw clockwise again... codes will clear from memory. Then turn the screw counterclockwise. DO ALL THIS WHILE THE KEY IS IN THE RUN POSITION , ENGINE NOT RUNNING AND THE HARNESS CONNECTOR WITH THE BOLT IN THE CENTER IS CONNECTED TO THE PCM. INSTALLATION IS THE OPPOSITE OF REMOVAL!!!!........I always loved that part!!! The code chart can be had by going to the public library website then to EBESCO HOST look up auto repair enter the vehicle information then go to engine performance and find the chart for trouble codes when a scan tool is not available, because it probably wont be available when you break down. HOPE THIS HELPED!!!
