See answer on other page. For a 94 Towncar with rear disc brakes: Jack up the car and remove the wheel. Jackstands are a good idea too. The calipers can be removed by inserting a suitably sized Torx wrench (mine was a socket that fit on my ratchet) into the two mounting bolts that face inwards - away from you. A screwdriver at the top of the pads will help loosen the calipers/pads, or you can compress it with a large (6 inch) C-clamp. Then the top of the caliper should slide out, followed by the bottom, which has a clip that fixes it to the bracket. Then the pads can be popped out by hand, or with a screwdriver. To remove the brake line at the hose connection at the body frame, a brake-line wrench is recommended; these look like box wrenches with a section cut out. Or a wrench at the caliper connection can be used.
Remove the tire and wheel from your 1993 Lincoln Town car . Remove the brake spring and break caliper. Remove the brake rotor by tapping on it with a hammer or mallet. Slide the rotor off. Reverse the process to install the new rotor and brake pads.
To Remove either the front or rear brake rotor, you must first remove the tire and wheel to expose the caliper. Then you remove the caliper, there are two bolts, the heads facing outward toward you if you are at the wheel well. There is one bolt at the top, and one at the bottom. After removing the bolts, you can then take a large flathead screwdriver and pry the caliper away from the the rotor. The rotor will now slip of of the wheel lugs.
Lift the car with a vehicle jack, remove the tire, remove the brake shoe/caliper and remove the old brake pads. Dispose of the brake pad, put in the new brake pad, put the brake shoe/caliper in its place, put the tire back in its place, and lower the car to the ground.
Remove wheels Re-install 2 lug nuts to hold rotor in place Remove caliper mounting bolts Slide caliper off rotor Use a "C"clamp to fully retract piston into caliper body Replace inner and outer pads Re-Install caliper PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SET PADS AGAINST ROTOR PRIOR TO MOVING VEHICLE
Remove the caliper, remove the caliper bracket, and remove speed clips that hold rotor. If the rotor is stuck , take a hammer and hit it squarely between the wheel studs.
Disc brakes? Remove wheel Remove caliper mounting bolts Slide caliper off rotor Remove rotor Re-install caliper and mounting bolts A special tool (not expensive available at Sears or Auto parts) is required because piston is threaded and must be screwed fully into caliper body Replace inner and outer pads Remove caliper mounting bolts Install rotor Re-install caliper PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SET PADS AGAINST ROTOR PRIOR TO MOVING VEHICLE
Remove wheels Re-Install 2 lug nuts to hold rotor in place Remove caliper mounting bolts Slide caliper off rotor Compress piston into caliper body using a "C" clamp (front only) Rear pistons are threaded and require a special tool available at Sears or auto parts (not expensive) to compress piston in to caliper body Replace pads inner and outer Re-Install caliper REMEMBER TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SET PADS AGAINST ROTOR PRIOR TO MOVING VEHICLE
Lug Wrench to remove tire & Wheel Socket Wrench or Hex Wrench to remove Caliper bolts Large "C" clamp to collapse caliper piston Rags, and a good spray brake cleaner
Failed caliper or brake hose.
