It seems more complicated than it should be - the following link has some good help and pictures. In case the link doesn't work, it seems you have to remove the whole "carpet" thing off the top of the rear deck. It appears to me it uses those push in plug things like other Ford interior body panels use to hold it in. The speakers are 6x8s that are in it and if you want 6x9s you will have to cut out the metal rear deck to make the holes bigger (or else block some of the 6x9). anyway check out the link... www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/worklogs/106063-2007-mustang-install-2.html
Disconnect the battery to prevent any electric shorts or shocks. Unscrew the speakers from their mounts and go through the trunk to remove the rear deck speakers. Replace the old speakers with the new speakers and screw them in. Connect the battery again and test your speakers.

you have to remove the entire deck lid inside to remove the rear speakers. remove the side of the interior that is right on top on the deck lid and covering part of the roof liner. remove the big blk plastic push clips holding the deck lid and carpet to the trunk. it should be able to come out now and expose the rear speakers
Remove the dash pad, then remove the speakers from the dash frame. For the rear speakers, open the trunk and remove the brackets, that hold the speakers in place. not for the back speakers ..you have to remove the lower rear seat then remove the seat belts then the rear seat back then remove the header panels in the back seat then remove the deck cover ..the rear speakers are bolted in from the top down under the rear deck cover....and the front speakers i believe are mounted in the door panels in the front doors ..you have to remove the door panels to remove them .some do have them in the dash also if they are there u do as the person stated before me.
The front speakers in a 1997 Ford Mustang convertible measure 6 inches by 8 inches. The rear side panel speakers measure 6 1/2 inches. The rear deck speakers measure 6 inches by 8 inches.
You need to do a lot if it is like my 1995. You need to remove the back seat remove the back of the back seat remove the screws holding the rear deck.. where the speakers are. then remove the screwss... what a pain.

they can, if you modify the rear deck. here's how; carefully remove the rear deck. then cut out an opening where the old speaker was underneath. next put the rear deck back in and put your 6x9 ontop of the rear deck. you should be able to screw your speakers into the rear deck
