This operation requires the AC system to be opened up, which requires the refrigerant to be evacuated from the system in a manner which prevents its release into the atmosphere and stored. Additionally, whenever an AC system is opened up, it will require the receiver-drier (if it's a Thermal Expansion Valve system) or accumulator (if it's a Fixed Orifice Tube system) to be replaced, as well.
