To replace the dashboard on a Firebird Trans Am, first, disconnect the battery and remove any trim pieces surrounding the dashboard. Then, remove the screws and bolts securing the dashboard to the vehicle, along with any attached wiring harnesses for gauges and controls. Carefully lift the dashboard out, and replace it with the new unit by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure before reassembling the trim and reconnecting the battery.
There are multiple Firebird, T/A parts places available online that will carry your dash board.
With some modifications anything could happen but is better if you get the dash wiring for the 79 firebird.

This job isn't too difficult. You have to remove the panel underneath the dash to access the steering column. The hi beam switch is located to the left of the column, and it is held in place by two 5/16" or 8mm screws.
Replace the dash board.
