The door spring requires a special tool the can be purchased for less than $20 from your local auto parts store. Without this tool you may get the spring out but you won't get it back in without damage to the door or yourself. The door pins remove easily, just remove the retaining clip and tap out the pin with a long punch and hammer. You can tap out the bushings also but I would suggest pressing them back in as they are very brittle and will break if you try to hammer the new ones back in. Have someone hold the door upright while it sits on a plastic milk crate, this way you won't have to disconnect the wires.
Your local auto parts store can sell you an inexpensive tool to remove and replace that door detente spring. Other hinge parts such as the pin and roller for the door detente and hinge pins and bushings are also available.
The purpose of the spring hinge tension pin in a door hinge mechanism is to provide tension and resistance, allowing the door to close properly and stay in place when opened or closed.
A spring hinge door closer uses a spring mechanism to automatically close a door. When the door is opened, the spring is compressed. Once the door is released, the spring expands, pulling the door closed. This helps to ensure that the door closes securely and automatically after it has been opened.
To fix a door hinge, you can tighten the screws on the hinge or replace them if they are stripped. You can also lubricate the hinge with oil or grease to reduce friction. If the hinge is damaged, you may need to replace it with a new one.
I had to remove my doors to do it. You will need access to the bodyshop tool that compresses the door spring on the hinge. That was the only hard part. You will also need to unhook all connections for power windows, locks too.Took me about 2 -3 hours the first time I did it. Mark

To replace the pins and bushings on the driver door of a 2000 GMC Sonoma, first, remove the door panel to access the hinge area. Support the door while removing the hinge bolts, then carefully detach the door from the hinges. Replace the old pins and bushings with new ones, reattach the door to the hinges, and ensure it aligns properly before tightening the bolts. Finally, reassemble the door panel.
You can replace the top door hinge with bottom hinges on the 1992 as long as the hinge is for the cab doors. The hinges for the tailgate would not work on the doors.
Spring hinge pins work in a door mechanism by using a spring-loaded design that helps the door close automatically. The spring inside the hinge pin provides tension, which helps the door swing shut when it is opened. This mechanism is commonly used in self-closing doors to ensure they close securely after being opened.
You need to disconnect the wiring to the electric window, locks, etc.,and the door has to be removed. The hardest part I think, is replacing the door spring that rides on the lower hinge; a body shop tool is needed for that.
