Replacing a transmission is not terribly difficult, although one should have a moderate mechanical background before starting the job. It will take the 1st time home mechanic a day or two to do this job. Start by purchasing a good shop manual such as a "Hanes manual". This manual will have step by step instructions and illustrations.

A 1991 Chevy Camaro with a manual transmission needs Dexron II ATF fluid. It provides lubricant and cooling to the transmission.
To replace the manual transmission on a 1991 Nissan pickup, first, ensure the vehicle is safely lifted and supported. Disconnect the battery, drain the transmission fluid, and remove the driveshaft, shifter, and any electrical connections. Unbolt the transmission from the engine and carefully slide it out, then install the new transmission by reversing the removal process, ensuring all connections are secure and fluid is topped off before testing. Always consult a repair manual specific to your vehicle for detailed instructions.
If it is a manual transmission their is not one.
I have had a similar problem with my 1991 Wrangler. I found if you can pull the 4X4 stick past the 4 high the push it back up it may engage. That worked for me. The problem was ultimately fixed when I had the transmission rebuilt.
