A 1993 Ford Ranger shifter may not be compatible with a 1997 Ford Ranger 5-speed transmission due to potential design and mechanical differences between the two model years. While both vehicles are part of the same Ranger family, it's essential to verify the specific transmission model and shifter design for compatibility. It's advisable to consult a repair manual or a professional mechanic for confirmation and to ensure proper fitment.
If your asking if it can be done without removing the transmission? NO.
To change the gear shifter bushings on a 1992 Ford Ranger with a 5-speed transmission, first, remove the shift knob and the surrounding trim panel to access the shifter assembly. Next, unbolt the shifter from the transmission and carefully lift it out, taking note of the orientation. Replace the old bushings with new ones, ensuring they are properly seated, then reassemble the shifter by reversing the removal steps. Finally, test the shifter for smooth operation before reattaching the trim.
