Have something to stand on so you can see what you're doing. Remove airflow intake cover that connects to engine. directly below you'll see the thermostat and thermostat hose. remove two screws from thermostat (make sure you have additional coolant). remove thermostat from hose. scrape off any remaining adhesive from thermostat housing. relax you're going to lose coolant. install new thermostat with gasket to housing. Be CAREFUL IF YOU STRIP THE HOUSING TIGHTENING THE SCREWS TOO MUCH YOU'RE SCREWED. WELL NOT REALLY BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO USE HEAVY DUTY SILICONE TO PROPERLY SEAL OVERTIME YOU REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT) after carefully aligning gasket in thermostat insert screws snug. NOT TIGHT! re-attach hose and refill with coolant. Pat yourself on the back!

Drain the water from your 1997 GMC Yukon cooling system. Remove the water supply hose. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Remove the old thermostat and replace with the new thermostat.
