I have found that a Chilton or Haynes Auto repair manual for the year and make of the vehicle (available at your local library)are an excellent source of information. They are quite informative on most parts replacement and how to troubleshoot.

Remove the retaining ring at the top of your Chevy S 10 ignition lock cylinder. Slide the ignition lock cylinder out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition lock cylinder. Reverse the process to install the new ignition lock cylinder.

You'll need a new ignition switch and key provided from your dealer, the bill won't be pretty!

To replace the ignition cylinder on a 1971 Chevy El Camino, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the necessary screws, then locate the ignition switch and the retaining pin for the ignition cylinder. Insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the "Run" position, and press the retaining pin to pull out the old cylinder. Finally, insert the new ignition cylinder, ensuring it's secure, and reassemble the steering column before reconnecting the battery.
Remove the retaining ring from the top of your 1999 Chevy Cavalier ignition switch. Slide the ignition switch out and remove the wiring harness from the end of it.
