The ignition "switch" on a 99 silverado isn't just a switch....it's a small wire harness that in the colum & under the dash.....if you look under the dash to the left of the colum...you will see a small block with a ton of wires and a red bolt in the center of it. this harness connects at 4-5 diff. locations in & around the colum....it typically runs about 250-300 $$. make sure that's your problem before ripping it out & buying a new one. if you have a "no start" situation......I would also check the starter (is there power to it when someone turns the key) the neutral safety switch (drivers side of the trans right above the shift link). If the key doesn't return on it's own from the start position then it's your ignition actuator rod in the colum. there is also a starter relay under the hood in the fuse box on drivers side....with the battery unhooked.....swap a relay with one of the others known to be good (headlamp relay is an easy check) hope one of these helps.........good luck
