There is a spring loaded pulley called a tensioner that puts the correct tension on the belt. That needs to be retracted so the belt can be slipped off. To replace the serpentine belt on a 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva, first, locate the belt routing diagram, usually found on a sticker under the hood. Use a wrench or socket to relieve tension on the belt by turning the tensioner pulley. Remove the old belt from the pulleys, then install the new belt following the routing diagram. Finally, ensure the belt is properly aligned on all pulleys and release the tensioner to secure the belt in place.
