There's a small clip that you must remove. It looks like a square with one side removed. It sits in there like it's perpendicular to the body of the car, inside the handle, with the points facing the trunk.
To remove it, just take a pocket knife & slide it under & pull it out towards the radio. Then pull the knob up.
