I just today, 11/25/2005, changed an ignition switch on a 1981 Ford F150 that has only 63,000 miles. It took less than 2 minutes. Under the ignition switch there is a small 1/8" hole that has a pin in it. It is spring loaded. Turn the ignition almost to the start position and depress the pin into the column. Pull the ignition switch straight out. Look down into the cavity where the switch came out and notice the 3/32" channel that is in the 2:00 position on the cavity. Make sure to line up the new switch so that the square male channel slids into the female walls inside the column. Just slide the new switch in fully and it will snap into place when the spring loaded pin hits the sweet spot. No problems with the starting of the engine and you are ready to go.

To change the ignition switch in a 1983 Delta 88, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the screws securing it, then locate the ignition switch, which is typically mounted on the steering column. Detach the wiring harness and unscrew the switch from its mount, then replace it with the new switch and reassemble everything in reverse order. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the new ignition switch to ensure it functions properly.
