This is one of those times I recommend shopping around for pricing to have it done professionally.
For years I would do exhaust and mufflers myself - until I found a chain of muffler shops here in the Detroit area that was about $20 more than parts alone!!
For $20, I'm much more than willing to NOT have to deal with rusted bolts and studs and the complications that you can run into.
Doing it yourself...
Doing it yourself? Just the muffler? $50+/- Take it to a muffler shop where they'll replace the exhaust pipe, the tail pipe and the muffler with a "lifetime replacement", and it could get expensive.
In the exhaust system between the engine and the muffler.
Why do you need a picture? Crawl under the car and take a look.
take to muffler shop
If the engines are the same, and the exaust parts look the same, then it should work.
My 96 Ford Taurus gl OHV had 2 when I pulled the exhaust off to replace the tyranny.
$300 and change at the Rainbow muffler and brake shop, Largo Florida
There are ( 2 ) exhaust manifolds on your 1997 Ford Taurus V6 engine
The muffler itself ranges from $45-85. Note: the original exhaust system was likely to be all welded together. This is going to make the project a little more complicated. Be prepared to do some pipe-cutting (cutoff wheel, reciprocating saw, hacksaw, etc...)
Ask at an auto parts store.
Underneath the vehicle mounted between the engine and the muffler.
Around 100.00- a muffler shop just cuts off the old one and welds a new one on.
