The plastic just oxidizes and gets cloudy and the renewal involves using several graduations of very fine sandpaper and rubbing compound but its almost foolproof to use. Another way to deal with the cloudy lenses is simply replace your bulb itself with one of the brighter "blue" elements... I used sylvania bulbs myself... Suprisingly this caused the film that had built up on the INTERIOR of the housings on my 95 GCLTD to literally bake and peel off the lens helping the issue as well. Quite often moisture does build up in these housings in northern climates due to bad weather and over time deposits crud on the inside,,, Go figure...
