You replace the wheel bearing hub assembly - it has studs, bearings and wheel speed sensor around $100 part
The front wheel bearings, of a Pontiac vibe, can be replaced by first removing the front wheel. Next, remove the axle end cap. Remove the bearing and reverse the process to install the new bearing.
Haynes Repair Manual. I had to replace front passenger side wheel bearing. The manual will walk you through it. I did have to get a pulley puller in order to get the brake disc off. Pretty straight forward though.
To replace the wheel bearing on a 2003 Pontiac Vibe, you'll need to lift the vehicle and remove the wheel. Next, detach the brake caliper and rotor to access the hub assembly. Remove the hub assembly bolts and use a puller to extract the old bearing. Finally, install the new bearing, reassemble the hub, and ensure everything is tightened to specifications before replacing the wheel.
It is on front/rear hub assy - bearing, studs and wheel speed sensor
how do you find out if wheel bearing is bad on a 2001 grand am gt
Wheel bearing is part of an hub assembly. Remove wheel, remove caliper & rotor. Disconnect speed sensor, unclip connector. Remove shaft nut in front & 3 bolts in back - replace with new hub/bearing/studs/wheel speed sensor assembly tighten to spec. You need to also remove the big shaft nut. When replacing make sure axle nut (33mm) is torqued to spec. [160Nm (118lb ft); hub bolts (13mm) torque spec: 130Nm (96lb ft) - 2000 Montana]
Take off the steering knuckle and press out the bearing and hub.Have the new bearing pressed in with the hub and re install the knuckle.
96 lbs for the three small bolts in the back I think the axle nut is 175?
this has to do with the sensor in the wheel bearing, unfortunatly the sensor and wheel bearing are one unit. first you have to find out which wheel bearing it is and then replace it, these can be expensive. I've had to replace both of mine within months of each other. take it to get a diagnostic done they can tell you which bearing it is.hope this helps
