If the thermostat has a rubber seal, you can carefully remove it and put it onto the new thermostat, place it back into position. If the rubber seal is cracked or broken, put on a gasket and gasket sealer to avoid leaks. If there is no rubber seal, you will need to place the thermostat in position, and then put on a gasket and gasket sealer. Bolt the elbow back on (this does not have to be cranked to death, just make sure it's tight). Reconnect the radiator hose. Put the radiator cap back on. Start the car and drive it, keeping an eye on the temperature to make sure everything is Ok.
