In my experience, most pre-96 vehicles can be reset simply by removing the battery cables for a little while. Those are OBD1 computers. In OBD2 computers, you are supposed to have a scan tool to reset the comp, which I have and so does Advance auto etc, for free they will do this. Or sometimes you get lucky by unhooking BOTH battery cables for a while anyway on the post 96 cars. What this does is erase all settings the computer had and it relearns them as you drive it again. This might work as well and might not. Some do this in order to bypass the check engine light when an inspection is due because the vehicle will not pass with the CEL on. It will relearn, but it also takes time for the readiness monitors to get ready to be inspected. So, there is a short window there before the CEL again relights for the affected part/code. I'd try unhooking the cables for an hour, won't hurt. Might not help, but worth a shot, it's free.
