You did not say what year and this is critical.
Does your key have a little chip in the metal part of the key? It is most likely the wiring between the ignition and the control box is faulty. I built a wiring harness and wired my spare key in right beside the box to bypass the wiring fault. Worked good.

Chevy does not use inertia/reset switches.
