Does your key have a little chip in the metal part of the key? It is most likely the wiring between the ignition and the control box is faulty. I built a wiring harness and wired my spare key in right beside the box to bypass the wiring fault. Worked good.
You need a manual with wiring diagrams and security box location for your particular car. GM moved them year to year and model to model to help keep these cars hard to steal.
