I was told by a Toyota dealer that I cannot dolly tow a car (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) with the drive wheels on the ground. So, a front wheel drive car can be on the dolly forward but a rear wheel drive would have to be backed on the dolly.
put it in neutral, you can also have someone steering the car
You put the automatic in neutral, or put a dolly under the drive wheels.
Yes, you can tow an automatic transmission Saab, but you must be very careful to tow it without it being "in gear". If that is not possible then it is best to have the car moved on a flat-bed truck, or by raising the driving wheels so that they are on a "dolly". A dolly is a sort of low wheeled vehicle which can have the "driven" wheels of the car sitting on the dolly, and not on the road surface.

no you can not tow a vehicle with an auto trans on a dolly if the drive axle is on the ground. the auto trans does not circulate fluid to the parts unless the engine is running.
That car has a relatively low powered engine, and a history of mechanical problems. I wouldn't risk that journey, and definitely not if it has an automatic transmission..
Any car with a standard transmission as long as it is in neutral. Automatic transmissions will overheat and burn up if the engine is not running. Front wheel drive cars can be towed using a tow dolly that puts the front wheels in a two wheel trailer called a tow dolly and the car rides on the dolly and the back wheels.
Yes.
Missouri does not require a title or registration for a tow dolly.
I was told that I could tow my Chev Malibu with all wheels on the pavement behind my RV by one dealer, then another said I couldn`t .....can I or can`t tow the car without putting it on a dolly If the car is automatic trans. NO. If its a stick, only for SHORT trips.
A tow dolly is used to tow a front-wheel drive car behind a large vehicle, such as an RV. It basically consists of an axle and a tow-hitch on top of two wheels.
Yes, with a tow dolly or car trailer.
