The air conditioning in a Tracer works through the power relay below the air cleaner. The low pressure switch on the accumulator near the firewall and the high pressure switch near the radiator cross member feed signals to a relay in the power relay box under the air cleaner. This relay box then sends information to the A/C compressor clutch. If you can jack up the car, remove the right front wheel and splash shield, you can "back probe" the wires on the A/C clutch and see if they are getting about 13 volts when the engine is running and the A/C is on. If it has the voltage and the compressor is NOT running, the problem is in the compressor. If it doesn't have the 13 volts, the problem is electrical and is wiring, the relay box or one of the switches, including the dash controls. Good luck eliminating these. To be sure, you can run a wire from ground and the battery directly to the compressor clutch to see if it will engage. If it does, the problem is electrical; if it doesn't, the problem is in the compressor.

How do you change ac compressor 97 Mercury Tracer?

To change the AC compressor on a 1997 Mercury Tracer, first, ensure the vehicle is off and disconnect the battery. Remove the serpentine belt and discharge the AC system using a recovery machine to avoid refrigerant release. Disconnect the electrical connector and lines from the compressor, then remove the mounting bolts. Install the new compressor, reconnect the lines and electrical connector, reattach the serpentine belt, and recharge the AC system with the appropriate refrigerant.

Where is ac port located on 1998 mercury tracer?

On a 1998 Mercury Tracer, the air conditioning (AC) port is typically located on the low-pressure side of the AC system, which is usually found near the accumulator, on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The port is usually marked with a blue cap. The high-pressure port is generally located near the compressor on the driver's side. Always refer to the vehicle’s service manual for specific locations and safety precautions.

Why does the AC unit not come on in 1998 Mercury Tracer but the compressor will run if jumped?

Low pressure relay is bad! Check freon pressure, if it falls too low, the compressor will not run (installed for safet of compressor)

How can I troubleshoot issues with my AC and heater system?

To troubleshoot issues with your AC and heater system, check the thermostat settings, replace air filters, inspect the circuit breaker, clean the condenser unit, and schedule regular maintenance with a professional technician.

Why would a 1999 Mercury Tracer AC blow cool air for about a minute and then stop cooling?

First guess would be low on refrigerant, causing the compressor to quit running after a short period. Could also be a buildup of pressure in the system, causing the system to shut down. Also possible that the fan clutch or some assembly on the compressor only works for a short period. . .

Its located on the low side (suction hose) side, follow the hose from the accumulator to the a/c compressor.......

Mercury Tracer vibrates when aircoditioner is running?

If your Mercury Tracer vibrates when the air conditioner is running, it could be due to several factors such as an unbalanced compressor, loose mounting bolts, or a worn-out engine mount. Additionally, issues with the AC system itself, like a failing blower motor or debris in the fan, could also cause vibrations. It's advisable to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle to diagnose the exact cause and prevent potential damage. Regular maintenance can help mitigate such issues.
