125 MPH. But, you really need to push it. Also, if you changed the gear ratio in the rear end / and or put a chip in the computer or upgraded it, you could go even faster. This is of course with the 5.9 360 V8 motor. If you have a V10 or turbo diesel motor, you may be able to go even faster. I have a '96 1500 2wd with an extended cab, 6 foot bed, cap, and some performance mods (minor bolt on). I can get up to 110 mph to 115 with no problem. With the computer and governor, it takes a heavy foot, long straight road, and patience to do 125 (or sink the needle). The newer "Hemi" models may do 130 MPH and north of that. Don't make this speed a habit, it will get you jail time! Use premium gas, do a good tune up (spark plug wires, spark plugs, cap, rotor, air filter, PCV and EGR valves, oil change, etc). These trucks are crappy on gas, have bad brakes, sloppy steering, and transmission problems (hit the overdrive shut-off button when you are racing around town, towing, hauling a heavy payload, or in bad weather i.e. ice or snow). The engines and truck itself is great. These engines (318 & 360 V8s) have been around for ages. They are STRONG engines. Change the oil and give em a little care, and they will be good to you. Some of the problems mentioned can be fixed or upgraded with a little time and $. trans = extra aux. cooler, brakes = aftermarket dimpled / slotted rotors with high perf. pads, steering = check lower ball joints, pitman arm, steering box, wheel alignment and pressure, gas mileage = learn to be a "pussy-foot" when not in a hurry or showing off. Just a small amount of pressure on the gas will get this monster up and going. Keep it well tuned and feed it premium gas at least once a month. Good Luck
