Should'nt be that tough. You have an access cover in the trunk under the carpet on the right side. Pull out the fuel pump and the fuel guage sending unit is part of the assembly.
Sending unit is in the gas tank attached to the fuel pump as an assembly.
Replace the sender unit
supposedly there is a cover in the trunk that you can remove to access the top of the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump and sender
Go to a Pontiac Mechanic and spend a few bucks.
The gas gauge sending unit would be located in the fuel tank.
Either bad gauge (unlikely) or bad sending unit (probably). Either way you're going to have to pull the gas tank to diagnose the problem. Either that or top it off every 200 miles and forget about it.
The sending unit is located inside the fuel tank. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00
I have a 1998 bonneville. It does the same thing. Now i have to fill it like every 200 miles or so.
When my 1994 Pontiac Transport is in park and idling the the speedometer runs erratically? Why?
You sure it is the gauge that is broke? I bet it is the sending unit.
Most of the time it is the sending unit inside the fuel tank. This is a single pump. sensor assembly. Drop the tank and replace the pump and sensor.
either replace the sending unit or the dash gauge, that is if there is electricity getting to the sending unit.
