Any automotive work really depends on the amount of automotive knowledge the individual performing the service possesses. From what I've seen, heater cores are a real pain to change out as most vehicles you have to remove the dash just to get to them. In this case, you have to remove the entire dash, the steering column, glove compartment, vaccum hoses, speedometer cable, a multitude of electrical connections...more hoses, plug some hoses, remove some ducts...it just goes on and on. You're looking at atleast a full day-2 days work assuming you are somewhat knowledged in working on a vehicle and assuming you follow the proper removal procedures and label the connections so you don't forget what connects where.
it should, unless there was a major body style change between the 2 years.
To change the heater core in a 2003 Ford Taurus, begin by disconnecting the battery and draining the coolant. Remove the dashboard and center console to access the HVAC unit, then disconnect the heater hoses and any electrical connectors. Unbolt the heater core from the HVAC unit, replace it with the new core, and reassemble everything in reverse order. Finally, refill the coolant, bleed the system, and check for leaks.
