5W-30 is the preferred oil , according to the Owner Guide
there is a fuse dedicated to the running lights on the 96 Thunderbird. Check your fuse panel under the dashboard for the proper fuse and check to see if it is blown.
INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND OR GASKET LEAKING! IT CAN BE EASILY TESTED BY ANY AUTO REPAIR SHOP.
i don't know about the Taurus but a thunderbird suspension will match up

the 96 thunderbird was only available in an auto tranny.. the 4R70W, this is the same auto tranny that the 96 - 04 mustang v6 and gt have, so you should have no problems.. hope this helps!
