For a 1993 Ford Ranger , 5 speed manual transmission : ( trans code " M " / Mazda ) It takes 2.8 U.S. quarts of MERCON automatic transmission fluid
Probably a worn out clutch disc.
5.6 pints ( 2.65 liters ) * according to www . the ranger station . com ( no spaces ) MERCON automatic transmission fluid is used in your 5 speed manual transmission *
I know that a 1994 ranger with a manual trans. uses automatic trans. fluid
The proceedure depends on whether the truck is 2WD or 4WD. I just removed the 5-speed from my 1993 Ranger Splash 4WD two times last week. I have it down to about a 4 hour job now.

no.
you can use mercon...
It should be in the owners manual.
Not according to the Gates and the Dayco websites - they manufacture timing belts and they both say the 2.3 L 4 cylinder used in the 1993 Ford Ranger is NOT an " interference motor " Of course , if the belt breaks than everything has to be put back "in time " which is more work.
